Gabriel Jesus expecting to make a shock return before the end of the season.

Gabriel Jesus has handed Manchester City a boost ahead of the final third of the season by claiming that he expects to return in two months - before the end of the campaign.

The Brazilian suffered a broken metatarsal two weeks ago in the win over Bournemouth and Pep Guardiola confirmed that he expects the forward to miss the rest of the season. However, Jesus is aiming for an April return after undergoing surgery 11 days ago.

"When will I be back? Two months from now, God willing," the striker told the  Mirror.

The 19-year-old arrived at the Etihad in January, having signed for the club for £27m in the summer, but agreed to see out the remainder of the season with Palmeiras.

Since his arrival, Jesus has managed to score three times in his three starts for the club, replacing Sergio Aguero as City's main striker.

Arriving at the home of one of the best strikers in Premier League history, Jesus was expected to face a tough time wrestling the number one spot from Aguero, but managed to do so with immediate goals.

The teenager, who is not new to success, has already won a league title with Palmeiras and a Gold medal whilst representing Brazil at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Despite Jesus' immediate impressive link up with Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane, Manchester City aren't really in too much of a bad position with Aguero and Kelechi Iheanacho both fit and eager to take Jesus' place during his absence.

20-year-old Iheanacho, who has hardly featured so far this season, still has four goals and three assists to his name, despite only completing one full 90 minute league match - demonstrating City's wealth of attacking options.

With Manchester United involved in the EFL Cup final, City were left with a few days off this weekend to prepare for their FA Cup fifth round replay with Huddersfield Town

Given the fact that they edged the eight goal thriller with Monaco last time out, this cup game shouldn't be too much of a challenge for Guardiola's side.
