Team Nigeria shine in Lakowe golf tourney.

With a historic field of 105 competitors, the biggest-ever to compete at the Lakowe Lakes Golf Club, Lagos, Team Nigeria 3, comprised of Uche Obilor, Winston Strassuer, Jonathan Ukoko and Muyiwa Alabi Uche, have emerged victorious with a 61.2 net score in a tournament organised recently to celebrate Nigeria’s 53rd independence anniversary.

The event also marked the first anniversary of the Lakowe Lakes Golf Club.

Players from 11 countries namely Nigeria, Korea, South Africa, England, France, Germany, Scotland, Sierra Leone, Holland, Zimbabwe and the United States of America exchanged swings in a keenly contested tourney.

The scramble team event, where the lowest score won, saw Team Liverpool from England, with 62.65 net score and Team Korea 1 with 63 net finishing in second and third places respectively.

For their efforts, the winning team members each got a N250, 000 Lakowe Lakes Golf Club Pro Shop gift voucher. The second and third placed teams got N100,000 and N50,000 gift vouchers respectively for each of their players.

The best-dressed team honour went to Team South Africa 2, comprised of Anton Marias, Adele Marias, Jenny Glynn Jones and Lynn Obry, who represented Hugh Glynn Jones.

In the ancillary prizes category, Jeff Ewing of Team USA 1 won the longest drive with 260m while Santosh Varma, who starred for Team Nebraska, won the nearest to the pin with 4ft. The honour for nearest centre line went to Team Austria’s Anna Gassauer.

Managing Director, ARM Properties Plc, owners of the facility, Wale Odutola, said, “We wanted something that was a bit more fun, different and group-oriented and not necessarily the stroke-play or some other individual style we play every other day.

“Added to this, the tournament is about bringing people together. Being a scramble event, it would enable us bring, for instance, four friends representing their countries together, where they would celebrate our club’s anniversary and Nigeria’s independence anniversary.”
