Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Tottenham 'target Barkley and Zaha', Oscar 'doesn't want to go to China'

Ross Barkley has 18 months left on his contract at Everton.

About three years ago, it looked as if Ross Barkley and Wilfried Zaha were destined for international glory and would be mainstays of the exciting young England side that tore upFrance and won Euro 2016.

It didn’t quite happen like that: Barkley didn’t play a single minute at the Euros and Zaha is about to start turning out for the Ivory Coast instead. But the potential is still there – and Tottenham Hotspur want to harness it.

Spurs are reportedly interested in bringing both ageing starlets to White Hart Lane in January as they seek a dribbler to supplement their not especially lethal attack.

The Standard says Barkley, 23, has “struggled to gain the confidence” of Everton managerRonald Koeman and that Mauricio Pochettino is “closely looking at the situation”. The attacking midfielder would cost “a minimum of £35m”, but that’s about half the crazy figures that were being bandied about for him when he burst onto the scene as a teenager.

Meanwhile, the Express claims Tottenham are preparing a £21m bid for Crystal Palace winger Zaha with Pochettino “keen to add another winger to his arsenal”. Interesting turn of phrase.
